- An alternative treatment and care center at The Ruach Dromit Outpatient Center for treatment of cancer patients and their families, which is located near Soroka Hospital.
- Providing treatment within the hospital's oncology department, Ruach Dromit offers alternative complementary treatment. All treatments at the hospital are given free of charge. The application of these treatments is coordinated with the medical staff of the oncology department and are implement taking into account the treatment plan of the individual patients.
All therapists working at The Center are trained professionals in the areas of alternative/holistic medicine and provide their services to The Center on a voluntary basis. The volunteers undergo specialized training for working with cancer patients and provided with professional supervision by The Center. In addition, since there is a need to make this service accessible to all Negev residents, special emphasis has been placed into recruiting therapists who speak Arabic, Russian and English.
Ruach Dromit, is an Israeli a non-profit organization, which opened in Beer Sheva the Holistic Treatment Center of the Negev for cancer patients and their families. The Center provides support and assistance to both cancer patients and members of their families through the provision of holistic treatment both in the center's clinic as well as in the oncology department at Soroka Hospital. The Center is based upon the belief that complementary holistic treatment benefits both the mind and the body. These treatments ease the psychological stress of battling cancer and thus increase the chances of recovery.
The need: There is an estimate of 8000 cancer patients in the Negev (2000 new patients per year), in addition to family members who are affected. The project will help in promoting medical care in the Negev and improving the quality of life for all Negev residents. Holistic centers for cancer patients have become more common over the past years throughout the world and in Israel. Many of these centers offer treatment at high costs exclusively for cancer patients. The Holistic Treatment Center of the Negev for cancer patients and their family is the only one in the region. The Kupot Holim (HMOs) offer alternative treatments that are not specific for cancer patients or those dealing with cancer. The Negev is Israel's biggest periphery and the socioeconomic status of those living in this region - both Jews and Bedouin Arabs - is significantly lower than that of the population residing in Israel's center. That is why treatments are often less accessible for them.
