For many, satisfying employment is the key to a better, more promising future. For the individual, family, community and Israeli society.
JobKatif was founded by Rav Yosef Zvi Rimon following the disengagement from Gush Katif in August 2005. "The day after the disengagement unemployment spiked at 85%, and JobKatif was established to help these individuals re-enter the work force" according to Rav Rimon.
By initiating various employment-focused programs, JobKatif was able to reverse the figures. After having nearly fulfilled its mission, JobKatif began to turn its attention to other sectors who were marginalized and could be helped by empowering them to find secure and stable employment.
Achotenu -- Nurses Training Program for the Ethiopian Community.
Many young adults from the Ethiopian community are employed in minimum wage, dead end jobs. Achotenu, a nurses training program, was initiated to overcome the financial and academic obstacles and empower them to train for stable careers and build a better future. With the success of the pilot program -- graduates are working as nurses throughout Israel -- a unique partnership was formed with Hadassah Women's Zionist Organization of America. Today, 18 students are studying for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Hebrew University's Henrietta Szold School of Nursing. This is the first time that Hebrew University is accepting nursing students without the requisite psychometric exam. Another 20-25 students will start in the summer 2017. Costs per student to JobKatif are $7,700.
Ta'asuChayil -- Employment-Focused Program for Impoverished Soldiers.
What happens to young soldiers who come from impoverished homes? While most yearn to complete the three-year stint, the reality of a poverty-stricken home life oftentimes leads to them dropping out before completing their service. The IDF helps by authorizing work-time off so they can make extra money. Ta'asuChayil works with employers throughout Israel who employ the soldiers. Then, as they approach their discharge, we guide them in making life-changing career and academic decisions. The costs per soldier are $2,000.
Changing the lives of individuals confronting employment challenges
Suffering from employment instability can have a deleterious impact on an individual, his family and society. JobKatif's unique mentoring offers individuals a proven system to help them overcome those barriers which have prevented them from maximizing their skills and enjoying job security. Fully 90% of those who complete the customized mentoring program are able to find satisfying employment within four months time. We help former residents of Gush Katif as well as other employment-challenged individuals. The costs per individual are $1,315.
JobKatif was founded by Rav Yosef Zvi Rimon following the disengagement from Gush Katif in August 2005. Inspired by the Maimonides principle that "the greatest level of tzedakah is to support a fellow Jew by…finding employment for him…" JobKatif began by helping the 85% who had been unemployed overnight re-integrate into the work force.
Over the years, JobKatif developed a multitude of employment focused programs among them mentoring and individual counseling, professional retraining programs, volunteer to employment bridge programs, small business initiatives and counseling and more. As a result, JobKatif has helped some 3,000 people gain employment.
After having nearly fulfilled its mission, JobKatif began to turn its attention to other marginalized sectors in Israel where stable employment could secure their future. Honing its skills and applying its knowledge and experience, JobKatif has developed new employment-based programs, each one designed to empower a specific population sector to break the ceiling of poverty by achieving financial independence.
